Schools planning

Schools inspections are a regular part of life and headmasters and their senior management teams will want to ensure that their planning meets the scrutiny of an external inspector as well as the challenge of a real incident.

Bournemouth University Disaster Management Centre (BUDMC) delivers one–day major incident management workshops designed for bursars, headmasters and deputy headmasters who have little or no experience in developing and practicing major incident management plans. These days are ideal for people who are responsible for ensuring that their existing plans are robust enough to survive outside scrutiny as well as meet the challenge of real incidents. The workshops give an opportunity to:

  • Improve your ability to identify and reduce risk within a major incident framework.
  • Understand current UK practice and doctrine in building resilience at a local level.
  • Review and compare existing plans with emerging best practice both from within UK and overseas.
  • Identify further development work to bring existing plans up to an improved standard.
  • Share ideas within a common forum.
  • Use the workshop material back at own School as an INSET day for further planning.
  • Call upon technical assistance of BUDMC.

BUDMC has worked in conjunction with the Independent Schools Bursars Association (ISBA), Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS) and the Headmasters’ and Headmistresses’ Conference (HMC).
